President's Message - January 2008

Dear Members,

The first half of this first term has flown by, much like 2007 itself. I hope the holidays found you all in good health and surrounded by loved ones. I know that, for me, 2007 was both a wonderful and challenging year. I was elected to President, won the ASSE vacation, and most importantly had a son in May. At the same time, I found myself searching for a new job in November (search complete, by the way, I have become the Director of Safety and Worker's Compensation for River Terminal Development as of January 2nd). I'm sure many of you found yourselves in equally wonderful and/or challenging situations and I hope they've all turned out for the best.

I want to take this time to remind everybody that we switch our meetings to dinner meetings beginning January 15th. In the next couple of weeks we will send out reminders, as well as our planned speaker schedule. We encourage you all to attend. If you come regularly, we love having you. If you haven't been out in a while, we'd love to have you back. If you've never come before, please come out and enjoy a meeting. It is a pressure-free environment, but a great networking opportunity as well as a chance to learn a little something about various topics.

For the New Year, we are working on a few things, including a recognition night (Past Presidents, Safety Professional of the Year, Long Term Service awards), a site visit, and a joint meeting with NJ Chapter. At the same time we will be continuing some of the same successful programs we've been doing such as the ACP training courses and the golf outing (though we will be doing this jointly with NJ chapter this year).

As 2008 starts trudging forward, we look forward to being able to share it with you. Remember, 5pm at Mastoris on Rt. 130 in Bordentown, NJ on January 15. We hope to see you there.

Have a very Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
John Braun, CHST
Penn-Jersey Chapter President
